ADIMANTAR RURAL & TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

Corona Activities At The Time Of Pandemic

The empowerment of women in rural and tribal areas is a crucial step towards achieving sustainable development and gender equality. Recognizing this, Adimantar Rural and Tribal Foundation envisions a future where women are not only economically empowered but also valued members of their communities. Through the promotion of bamboo basketry and clothing, the foundation aims to provide employment opportunities to women, thereby enhancing their socio-economic status and fostering community development. We empower women in marginalized tribal communities through traditional handicrafts, specifically MOONJ GRASS Baskets. By focusing on this natural fiber, the foundation is not only preserving a dying art form but also providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural women. This initiative enhances their skills, promotes economic independence, and strengthens cultural heritage, fostering overall community development.

Artistry by Tharu Tribe

We emphasized empowering tribals from the Tharu tribe in Uttarakhand by reviving the traditional artistry of MOONJ GRASS Basketry. This initiative comprises the decline of traditional basketry by adapting the products to contemporary market demands. With Uttarakhand’s substantial Tharu population, approximately 20,000 artisans possess the potential to create world-famous Moonj baskets. By enhancing these artisans’ skills, the program not only revives a dying craft but also boosts the local economy and provides sustainable livelihoods for marginalized tribal communities.

Promotion of Bamboo Handicraft:

Bamboo basketry is an ancient craft deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of many rural and tribal communities. The foundation seeks to revitalize local economies by promoting this traditional art form while preserving indigenous knowledge and craftsmanship. Women are trained in the art of bamboo weaving, equipping them with valuable skills that enable them to generate income and support their families. Additionally, the foundation facilitates access to markets and fair trade opportunities, ensuring that the products of their labor reach a wider audience.

Empowerment Through Clothing Production

In addition to bamboo basketry, the foundation also focuses on the production of clothing using sustainable and locally sourced materials. Women are trained in various aspects of garment making, from designing to stitching, enabling them to create high-quality apparel that reflects their cultural identity. By harnessing the rich textile traditions of rural and tribal communities, the foundation not only promotes economic empowerment but also preserves cultural heritage. Moreover, the production of clothing provides women with a sense of pride and ownership over their work, boosting their self-confidence and social standing within their communities.

Impact and Community Development

The empowerment of women through bamboo basketry and clothing production has far-reaching benefits for rural and tribal communities. Not only does it improve the economic well-being of women and their families, but it also fosters community development. As women become active participants in the local economy, they gain a voice in decision-making processes and contribute to the overall development of their communities. Moreover, the promotion of sustainable practices ensures the long-term viability of natural resources, thereby preserving the environment for future generations.
